SHOW REPORT OF THE BRITISH BORDER.F.C.C. OPEN & CLUB SHOW

held at the Marine Hall, Fleetwood on 19th & 20th November 2005

 Judges: I Austin, P J Meacock, M Scott, B Shuttleworth, F Steegmans.

The British Border Fancy Canary Club’s Open and Club Show staged at the Marine Hall, Fleetwood attracted a total entry of 930 birds. Which was quite a pleasing entry in the circumstances, with the uncertainty of the show going head with the Avian bird flu scare. The show finally went ahead under licence from D.E.F.R.A. with Bio Security in place. We would like to thank everyone who made the effort to enter and visit the show.

The Premier Section was a better success from the first time we tried it, with more of the top exhibitors supporting us with 132 birds entered. Some exhibitors are still missing the point in what we are trying to achieve. With the more successful exhibitors showing in this section, this is giving the other Champions a better chance of obtaining a special or a Red ticket, as can be proven in the Champion winners list below, and surely this will encourage more people to show their birds. Phil Warne entered a very strong team with excellent type and quality, with which he won Best Border, Best Premier, also taking 2nd to 6th Best Premier .

The attendance at the show was quite high with visitors from all parts of England, Scotland, Wales and both Northern and Southern Ireland.  There was also quite a few overseas visitors from Europe and the U S A.

We would like to thank all our friends from South Wales, Scotland and Ireland who traveled hundreds of miles to exhibit and visit the show. I know that it took some of our friends from Ireland over two days to get back home due to the foggy weather closing Blackpool and Liverpool Airports down for over a day.

The quality and standard of the birds was very high, as usual with many good birds not being in the cards.

The Novice Section was very well supported with just over 330 birds entered and was not dominated by any one person.

Paul Morledge headed the Novice Section with a very nice Green Variegated Buff cock. He also took 7th Best Novice and had all his other entries placed in the cards.

Ian Rowan entered a very strong team winning 2nd and 6th Best Novice .

Alan Harper, Brent Leech and Ronny McGrath entered strong teams winning at least one special each.
